Mbuni in Swahili means ostrich. Ostriches can reach seven feet or taller, weigh three hundred pounds or more and run forty miles an hour. You won't find any human athletes that can top that! And speaking of athletics, ostrich eggs are bigger than a shot put! And while the poem compares them to those of Popeye's sometimes girlfriend, if you follow the track and field analogy, their legs and necks most resemble pole vault poles. Yet, despite all of that, there's one hurdle the ostrich can never get over, though almost all the rest of the birds can practically scale it in their sleep: flight.
