Mystery AnimalsWelcome to Safari!. As you travel across the grassy plains, you will encounter 22 wild African animals - through poems which the animals themselves will recite to you. To begin with Mystery Animal #1, click on our tour guide, the monkey (right); or scroll down for more information about the journey.

Animal Index Your job on this safari is to identify the Mystery Animals by reading and listening to the clues they give you in their poems. Click on the question mark (right) to go to a list of the Mystery Animals, or scroll down for more information about the journey.

The title of each poem is the Swahili word for the animal. So, if you can guess the animal's identity, you can also learn the word for it in Swahili. To hear the pronunciation of a Swahili title, you may click on the green box (with an ear) above the poem. To hear the animal recite its poem, you may click on the blue box (with an ear) above the poem. As you are listening, scroll down and read the poem.

Once you've read the poem, try to identify the speaker, then click on the monkey again to see a photo of the animal. From the photo page you can click on the 'Tell Me About It!' icon to read fun facts about the animal, or you can click on the artist to see a drawing of the animal which you may copy and color.

To begin with an introductory poem, (not about an animal) click on the African continent (right).

Safari nzuri! (Swahili for 'Have a good safari!')
