Imiqqutailaq
means Arctic tern in Inuktitut.
Arctic terns are, without question, the world's greatest marathoners, migrating
from the northernmost parts of the world to the southernmost parts and back
every year. Probably no other living creature on earth sees more sunshine.
They summer in the Arctic, when the sun fills both day and night with light,
and winter at the southern tip of South America and in Antarctica, when the
sun makes its lengthiest appearances there. Aerodynamically angular, they
take full advantage of their sleek physique to literally reach the far ends
of the earth, traveling over 20,000 miles a year in the process.
