Amazin' Amazon Mystery Animals
Mystery
Animal #11
- Answer: Anaconda
Anacondas,
like boas and pythons, are constrictors, only, instead of in trees or on
the ground, they do most of their squeezing in the drink. About the length
of a bus, the largest anacondas could easily accommodate a human meal, but,
despite their Hollywood portrayal, they normally stick to their natural
prey - anything nonhuman that dares share their space in the water and is
big enough to make a decent dinner. Since they don't chew, swallowing
whole, they often end up sporting a hefty lump after the hunt. So, they
retreat to a hole at the base of a tree and coil up for a long digestive
rest.
