Music and Art Connections

The Song of the Harpy Eagle connects to the music curriculum through its songs. Music teachers may wish to copy the words and teach students some or all of the songs. They might also suggest creative movements indicative of the animal that students could make during the songs.

Art teachers might make masks/costumes with students representing the different animals. Students might also make rain forest murals, posters and representations of the animals using different art materials.

If your staff works well together as a team, you could put these elements together and stage your school's very own presentation of The Song of the Harpy Eagle.

Note: Paul Hurteau, who created The Song of the Harpy Eagle, conducts one and two week residencies in which he and teachers prepare students for a stage version of the adventure and explore the creative processes involved in producing a musical performance.
