Bonus Poems
These 'Bonus Poems' are not found on the student pages. The first three are about animals that are already on the student pages. The last is a 'trick' poem you may want to try on your students. It's actually about a jet and not an animal, but plays on the fact that 'ndege' in Swahili can mean 'bird' or airplane.'
Punda Milia II
Zig Zag
I'm quite a sight
Zag Zig
I'm black and white
Strip Stripe
I follow the rain
Stripe Strip
Across the plain
Zig Zag
I'm a herbivore
Zag Zig
I always want more
Strip Stripe
I look like a horse
Stripe Strip
But I'm not of course
Zig Zag
Strip Stripe
Who am I?
Duma II: Splashing Sprint!
Splendid in my spots
I spy a sprightly springbok
Spontaneous speeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeed!
Nyumbu II
Is it new to you
That nu is the thirteenth letter of the Greek alphabet?
It's not news to me
I knew
I make it a habit to know of my homonyms
After all, I am a gnu
Though I do have another less flattering handle
Guess who.
Ndege
My name means bird in the language Swahili
And up in the sky is where you'll usually see me
I do have wings, but feathers not one
And my wings never flap as I soar in the sun
Over oceans and continents
I fly fast and far
To bring people together
Wherever they are
I'm no animal, you can bet
I'm a high-flying diesel, supersonic ____.
