Curriculum Connections
Safari Web Site Project
After writing and illustrating their own poems (see Writing
Your Own Safari Poems),
your students are just a few steps away from creating their very
own Safari! Web site - just like this one. Scan the illustrations,
type in the text of the poems, and check with your Computer/Technology
teacher for suggestions about what software to use when making the
site (this site was made with Microsoft Publisher, for example).
If you have RealPublisher and RealPlayer (or other means to capture
and play sound) on your computers, and your server supports sound,
you may also be able to have an audio component of your site. Use
this Safari! as a model for the layout of your Safari! site, putting student illustrations instead of photos on the answer
pages. You can make a simple Safari! with poem pages linking
to answer pages that link to the next poem, or students can also
write up fact pages (called 'Tell Me About It!' pages on
this site) that link from the answer pages.
