How to Use the Lab:

1. Review the vocabulary list with your students. A printable Word version of the list is available here. You may print it and make copies for your students.

2. Have students listen to the audio recordings and repeat the words/phrases/sentences. Note: There are three audio pages -- one with students saying the vocabulary words; one with students saying sentences including the vocabulary words; and one with students introducing themselves and sharing information about themselves.

3. Have students watch the video. Ask students to 'catch' the words/phrases in the video that they have just learned. Watch the video again. Pause whenever a word or phrase on the vocabulary list has come up, and ask students to repeat it. Discuss the video with your students. What does it reveal about the culture and language of the students featured? What similarities and differences can your students recognize between their lives and those of the students featured? What questions would they like to ask the students in the video?

4. Use the flashcard page for review and to assess your students' degree of comprehension and retention. Each flashcard is a drawing/painting created by the students featured in the module and representing one of the words on the vocabulary list. Students may mouseover the flashcards to see the words in Chinese and pinyin.

5. Have students complete the module quiz, to assess how much they have learned. The answer page can be downloaded here.

6. (optional) We welcome your class to contribute a Student to Student Language Lab module in their first language! If you are interested, please send an E-mail to lab@oneworldclassrooms.org. We will send you a module and guidelines.
