YackPack
We are experimenting with YackPack as a means for students and teachers in different parts of the world to communicate, practice foreign languages and provide feedback to each other. For teachers who are interested in involving your students in this activity, please follow the steps below to get started:
1) Go to the YackPack for Educators Web Site. Watch the video tutorial to learn more about how to use YackPack in a language classroom.
2) Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click Get Started Now. Sign up for an account for your class.
3) Send us an Email with your account name so we can send you an invitation through YackPack or forward your account name to your partner class so you can communicate with each other directly. Note: For security reasons, we recommend that you initially use a class or teacher photo as an icon for YackPack. Once you have established a stronger relationship with your partner class, you may use student photos at your own discretion and according to school policy.
4) Use YackPack to help your students practice the language they are studying in conjunction with the Student to Student Language Lab. For example, if your class is studying Chinese, your students can practice the vocabulary in this module, while you record them and send the recording to a partner class in China for feedback. Your students can also use YackPack to ask their peers questions about Chinese grammar and culture. Have fun and be creative!
5) Since we are still experimenting with this service, your feedback regarding how you have used YackPack to interact directly with your partner class and help your students improve language skills is much appreciated. Let us know at lab@oneworldclassrooms.org.
